Product Overview
Specifically designed for challenging, high-value extraction projects, ISM equipment combines high-intensity ultrasound with directly scalable process flow — a combination that is unique in the industry.
High-intensity ultrasound enables efficient, high-yield extraction of alkaloids, cannabinoids, terpenes, polyphenols, recombinant proteins, and many other bioactives. In many cases, harsh organic solvents can be replaced with greener alternatives, such as ethanol or water, while still achieving superior results.
The Pro-Lite™ is the standout choice for users who have completed laboratory-scale optimization and are ready to move into pilot-scale production without committing to a fully industrial system. It is designed for batch processing of biomass/solvent slurries on the order of 5–10 liters, with most extraction steps automated. The operator loads the material, selects the processing parameters, starts the system, and collects the extract when the process is complete for filtration and downstream processing.

The Pro-Lite™ is built on ISM’s patented Barbell Horn® Ultrasonic Technology (BHUT), which enables high-amplitude ultrasound over extended radiating surfaces at any operational scale. Unlike conventional high-amplitude horns, which are largely limited to laboratory-scale use, BHUT allows results achieved at lab scale to be transferred directly to pilot and industrial production. |
Why Ultrasonic Extraction?
Ultrasonic cell disruption (lysing) is widely recognized as one of the most efficient extraction methods for a broad range of applications, owing to its simplicity, speed, and effectiveness. High-amplitude ultrasound generates intense acoustic cavitation — microscopic collapsing bubbles that produce powerful microjets and shockwaves capable of disrupting cell walls and driving rapid, high-yield extraction of target compounds.
- High Yield, Short Processing Times: Ultrasonic extraction dramatically accelerates the extraction of alkaloids, cannabinoids, terpenes, polyphenols, recombinant proteins, and other bioactives compared with conventional stirring, soaking, or maceration methods.
- Greener Solvents: In many cases, harsh organic solvents can be replaced with food-grade alternatives, such as ethanol or water, while maintaining or improving extraction efficiency — reducing cost, environmental impact, and downstream solvent-removal burden.
- Precise Temperature Control: ISM extraction systems maintain precise temperature control throughout the process, making it possible to extract heat-sensitive compounds without thermal degradation.
- Wide Volume Range: ISM systems handle volumes ranging from a few milliliters to many hundreds of liters of biomass/solvent slurry, with reactor chambers designed without narrow gaps or capillaries to help eliminate clogging.
- Directly Scalable Results: Because ISM’s Barbell Horn® Ultrasonic Technology maintains consistent cavitation intensity at every scale, laboratory optimization results transfer predictably and reproducibly to pilot and industrial production.
Pro-Lite™ Ultrasonic Extractor for Pilot-Scale Production
Presented recently by ISM Junior R&D Scientist James Marco, the Ultrasonic Extractor Pro-Lite™ is a semi-automated system purpose-built for the critical transition from laboratory optimization to pilot-scale production — the stage where many manufacturers struggle.
With the Pro-Lite™, most steps of the extraction process are automated. The operator loads the biomass/solvent slurry, selects the processing parameters via the system interface, starts the process, and returns to collect the extract for downstream filtration and refinement. This hands-off workflow minimizes operator involvement, reduces variability, and supports consistent results across runs.
The Pro-Lite™ is compatible with a wide range of botanicals and biomass types — including powdered kratom leaves, cannabis plant material, mushrooms, and other plant sources — and is effective for extracting alkaloids, cannabinoids, terpenes, polyphenols, recombinant proteins, and other bioactives.

Who Is the Pro-Lite™ For?
The Pro-Lite™ is ideally suited for manufacturers and R&D teams that have validated their extraction process at laboratory scale and are ready to move into pilot-scale production — but are not yet ready to commit to a fully industrial system. It occupies the critical sweet spot between benchtop R&D and large-scale manufacturing, providing true pilot-scale capacity with a 5–10 L batch size and a level of automation that keeps operation simple and results reproducible.
Specific applications include, but are not limited to:
- Kratom & Kava: High-yield extraction of mitragynine-rich alkaloids from kratom leaf material and kavalactones from kava root using food-grade solvents.
- Functional Mushrooms: Efficient extraction of polysaccharides, beta-glucans, and other bioactives from lion’s mane, reishi, chaga, and other functional mushroom species.
- Cannabis & Hemp: Rapid, high-yield extraction of cannabinoids and terpenes from plant material, with the option to use milder solvents while maintaining or improving extraction efficiency.
- Botanicals & Nutraceuticals: Extraction of polyphenols, flavonoids, curcuminoids, and other plant-derived bioactives for use in dietary supplements, functional foods, and beverages.
- Recombinant Proteins & Microbial Biomass: Cell disruption and protein extraction from bacterial, yeast, and algal biomass for pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications.
The Pro-Lite™’s semi-automated design also makes it practical for facilities without dedicated extraction specialists — the system handles the processing while your team focuses on what comes next: filtration, formulation, and finished product development.
From Lab to Industrial Production: A Clear Scale-Up Path
One of ISM’s most important differentiators is the ability to transfer results achieved at laboratory scale directly to pilot and industrial production. This is made possible by patented Barbell Horn® Ultrasonic Technology (BHUT), which maintains consistent cavitation intensity across the ISM product line — from compact lab systems to full-scale industrial platforms.
That means you can optimize your extraction process on a Jet or Jet-Lite at lab scale, validate it on the Pro-Lite™ at pilot scale, and deploy it on the Pro or Max at industrial production volumes — with confidence that yields, selectivity, and product quality can be maintained throughout scale-up.
